Learning objectives To identify imaging features that suggest various clinical manifestations and significant complications associated with Behçet’s disease across different imaging modalities at the time of diagnosis and during post-treatment follow-up. To direct patients with Behçet’s disease to the appropriate treatment in a timely manner and improve clinical outcomes by making an early diagnosis of Behçet's involvement through imaging based on clinical features.
Read more Background This exhibit includes patients with Behçet’s disease who were evaluated using various imaging modalities at our institute to demonstrate different radiologic findings, alongside a review of the current literature.Behçet's disease is a systemic auto-inflammatory vasculitis of unknown etiology, with its pathogenesis likely involving environmental factors acting on a genetic predisposition, linked to various epigenetic modifications (such as HLA-B51 mutations). The disease typically affects young adults and impacts both genders equally, though it tends to follow a more severe course in...
Read more Findings and procedure details Behçet’s disease affects arteries and veins of all sizes and types and is characterized by a variety of clinical manifestations due to its involvement with different types of vessels. Venular involvement and pulmonary arterial aneurysms are unique features of Behçet’s disease. Clinical manifestations can range from asymptomatic cases to life-threatening multi-organ involvement, leading to serious and potentially fatal complications such as cerebral vein thrombosis, intestinal perforation, occlusion of the VCI or VCS.    Thoracic manifestationsBehçet's disease can lead to aortic and pulmonary...
Read more Conclusion Behçet's disease is a complex systemic vasculitis. Imaging is crucial for prompt diagnosis, identification of multi-systemic involvement, and assessment of treatment response. A multimodality approach using ultrasound, CT, and MRI is essential for evaluating the extent of the disease, identifying potential complications and guiding appropriate treatment strategies.
