Purpose Polymorphous Low-Grade Neuroepithelial Tumor of the Young (PLNTY) is a rare brain tumor recently introduced in WHO Classification CNS in 2021 as WHO 1. Currently there are approximately 80 well documented cases of PLNTY.The aim of our study was to evaluate new cases of PLNTY and to assess possible new findings in this group of patients. As the study is ongoing, we have come across an additional case of PLNTY.
Read more Methods and materials The group of 9 patients included 6 boys and 3 girls aged between 8-17 years old (mean= 13,6). All of the patients underwent MR diagnostic and surgical treatment. For the purpose of our study all cases were numbered from I to IX. [fig 1] [fig 2] [fig 3] [fig 4] [fig 5] [fig 6] [fig 7] [fig 8] [fig 9] [fig 10] Brain scans were performed using 1,5 Tesla MR scanner with standard MR protocol with TSE, FLAIR, DWI, SWI, MPR sequences T1- and T2- weighted imaging, without and with contrast. We retrospectively analysed MR features of the tumors, such as:...
Read more Results Initially 8 of the 9 patients presented epileptic symptoms. Patient number VIII had a headache as the main symptom, which lasted for 2 weeks and was the main cause of the MR examination - in this case the lesion was located in the left thalamus. In our study 3 of the 9 tumors were situated in the temporal lobes. Other tumors were located extratemporal: two in the parietal lobes, one in the occipital lobe, one in the frontal lobe, one in...
Read more Conclusion Our study confirms the majority of previous PLNTY characteristics. However some new findings were also observed. Our results show how the appearance of PLNTY can change. We believe that these observations will help us to extend our knowledge about PLNTY and understand more clearly how morphology of this type of tumor develops over time.
