Learning objectives To assess the efficacy of the "Crash course in basic chest x-ray and CT" as a teaching method for young residents in radiology and clinical specialties working in the North Denmark Region.
Read more Background Chest x-ray (CXR) is one of the most requested imaging modalities in hospitals and often the starting point for the diagnosis and management of cardiopulmonary diseases. It is usually performed on patients from the emergency room, critical care unit, following the placement of various medical devices or prior to major surgical procedures.1Traditionally, radiologists are responsible for interpreting and reporting CXR and research indicates that they offer a better quality and accuracy of reporting compared to other physicians.2 However, the increasing demand...
Read more Findings and procedure details Thirty-four (34) participated in the course, including residents from different specialties, such as emergency medicine, internal medicine, anesthesia, psychiatry, general surgery, family medicine and radiology. All participants were satisfied with the course and had their expectations met, while 95% would recommend the course to other colleagues. On the quiz, a total of 24 participants had a score of over 50%, 21 over 60% and 15 over 69%. The highest score was 92%. Only 4 participants had a score of under 50%...
Read more Conclusion CXR is one of the most difficult imaging examinations to interpret. Using CT correlation is a valuable method for understanding and teaching CXR. When reporting CXR, one should make this correlation when CT is available. Results indicated that this course model is a good teaching method for junior doctors working in different specialties, including young radiology residents. This inspired our department to work on organizing “crash” courses with different topics, such as acute abdominal CT, musculoskeletal imaging and a basic CT...
