Learning objectives To review the imaging characteristics of common orbital inflammatory diseases and their mimickers, providing a systematic approach to differentiate these conditions based on location and imaging characteristics.
Read more Background Orbital inflammatory disorders affect the optic nerve, extraocular muscles, lacrimal gland, and adjacent tissues due to infectious, autoimmune, or idiopathic causes. Symptoms include pain, swelling, proptosis, and visual disturbances. Common conditions include orbital cellulitis, idiopathic orbital inflammation, dacryoadenitis, optic neuritis, optic perineuritis, IgG4-related disease, and Tolosa-Hunt syndrome.Timely diagnosis is essential to prevent vision-threatening complications, though these disorders often mimic neoplasms, vascular malformations, or systemic diseases. Radiologic evaluation with clinical history aids differentiation. This poster provides an overview of key orbital inflammatory...

Other demyelinating causes include neuromyelitis optica and MOG-associated disease, while non-demyelinating causes include infections and Behçet’s disease.Imaging: MRI shows a swollen optic nerve with increased T2 signal and contrast enhancement, best seen on coronal images. [fig 1] [fig 2] Optic ischemic neuropathy, a differential diagnosis, may show restricted diffusion and the “central bright spot sign.” [fig 3] Optic Perineuritis:Inflammation of the optic...
Read more Conclusion Accurate diagnosis of orbital inflammatory diseases and mimickers is essential for guiding treatment. A systematic imaging approach with clinical correlation improves diagnostic accuracy and patient outcomes.
