Learning objectives Review the new FIGO (International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics) 2023 classification for staging endometrial carcinoma.Examine the value of diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) in the staging of endometrial carcinoma. [fig 1] [fig 2]
Read more Background Endometrial carcinoma is the most common tumor of the female genitourinary system.Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) remains the imaging method of choice for staging and for identifying prognostic factors that can influence the surgical management of these patients, as recommended by the European Society of Gynecological Oncology (ESGO) guidelines.DWI, in particular, stands out for its rapid acquisition and straightforward interpretation, making it a critical tool in the detection, characterization, and staging of endometrial carcinoma.Staging of endometrial carcinoma will be performed according...

Read more Conclusion The new FIGO 2023 classification establishes histological and molecular criteria as fundamental for the staging of endometrial carcinoma confined to the uterus. However, MRI remains essential in both localized and advanced stages of the disease. Its value lies not only in identifying prognostic factors that may alter tumor staging but also in detecting elements that influence surgical or medical treatment strategies. In this context, DWI sequences are a key tool for accurately detecting and classifying these factors.
