Learning objectives   To enlist the imaging features of precursor lesions of gall bladder carcinoma.  To illustrate the multi-modality imaging features of gallbladder.  To discuss the clinical features of gall bladder carcinoma.
Read more Background Gallbladder cancer is the most aggressive biliary tumour, associated with poor median survival rates. Complete surgical resection is only feasible for patients diagnosed at an early stage. Majority of patients present with advanced disease, necessitating a multidisciplinary management approach. Nodal, hepatic, peritoneal, and incision site metastatic disease are common, with gall bladder tumours demonstrating a high propensity to recur in the abdominal wall. The significance of imaging in gallbladder cancer is immense with ultrasound (US), CT and multi-parametric MRI playing...
Read more Findings and procedure details Radiologic findings in early-stage cancers are often subtle and can overlap with those of chronic inflammatory conditions. Established risk factors include cholelithiasis along certain geographic locations (Gangetic belt) , porcelain gall bladder, adenomyomatosis, gall bladder polyps and xanthogranulomatous cholecystitis. The TNM staging is based on 8th American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) staging system. T category has now been subdivided into T2a and T2b based on the tumor’s location. Nodal categories are defined as N1 (1-3 metastatic lymph nodes) and...
Read more Conclusion The key staging features of gall bladder carcinoma and its precursors have been mapped out with representative images.
