The periodic quality control of the RPE reinforces the conformity of its structure in order to ensure maximum effectiveness in the protection of workers and patients exposed to ionising radiation. It is recommended that the programme described in this study, which was later transformed into a Best Practices Guidance, be developed on an annual basis. This should be done in accordance with the current workflow of this institution.
The control and verification conditions established in this study can be adapted to new situations, such as the acquisition of different model RPE's, conditions of use, RPE age, frequency of use and allocation to other units.
Any change in the type of equipment, emission sources or workload should requires a review of this Guidance. The replacement of the RPE and its predictability is imposed by the study of the equipment wear in this hospital.
The Radiological Protection Task Force, the Radiological Protection Delegate (RPD) and the boards of the units to which the RPEs are assigned, should be provided with documentation of each inspection. This Guidance can also be used as a working basis to develop at similar departments.
