Purpose Dixon sequences play a major role in measurement of fat fraction (FF, PDFF) in MRI. Methods for quantifying FF are based on Dixon, which are widely available on modern tomographs regardless of the manufacturer. Existing software solutions for automatic calculation of fat fraction, which have proven their high accuracy in quantifying FF (for example, “IDEAL IQ” for GE, “Liver Lab” for Siemens, etc.). Software techniques are not available on all tomographs, as they are an additional paid option. Nevertheless, in...
Read more Methods and materials The data of standard liver CT and MRI of 25 patients were obtained. MRI was performed on a 3 T scanner, Siemens Skyra. Inclusion criteria: patients with signs of stethohepatosis on the background of antitumor treatment, as well as the absence before antitumor therapy of signs of steatosis, hemochromatosis according to CT data both based on indicators of liver density HU, and anamnestic data. The set values of the FF were determined based on the results of preliminary phantom testing...
Read more Results There was a general overestimation of the calculated values from those given by the formula FF1, a linear dependence of the calculated FF on phantom indicators was observed, in the presence of a small nonlinearity in the range FF = 10-20%. FF2 results showed a nonlinear dependence of the calculated values of the FF on the specified ones is noted, in the presence of pronounced nonlinearity in the range FF = 20-40%. The data of the images and the phantom...
Read more Conclusion FF evaluation using Dixon formulas is possible only after calibration phantom tests. Otherwise, incorrect FF will be calculated. The development of phantoms and proven approaches to the assessment of FF will contribute to the standardization and wide clinical application of the above approaches available to all.
