In this study participated 103 nurses, all were female. The average age of respondents was 42 years. The distribution between the therapeutic and surgical departments consists of 58 and 45 nurses, respectively.
Highlights:
• 57.8% of surgical profile and 44.8% of therapeutic profile nurses correctly identified medical imaging examinations that use ionizing radiation (Fig. 1).
• 82.2% of surgical profile and 70.7% of therapeutic profile nurses identified that ionizing radiation is harmful to pregnant women (Fig. 2).
• 75.6% of surgical nurses and 65.5% of therapeutic nurses agreed that it is important for all nurses to have fundamental knowledge of medical imaging procedures (Fig. 3).
• The vast majority of all respondents believe that they should be able to provide information to patients before the procedure regarding its aim, duration, and process, and be able to answer patients' questions (Fig. 4).
• 88.9% of surgical profile and 65.5% of therapeutic profile nurses correctly identified the main contraindications to magnetic resonance imaging (Table 1).
• 66.7% of surgical profile and 81.0% of therapeutic profile nurses have never participated in training or seminars on medical imaging topics; therefore, most of them would like to acquire more knowledge in this field (Table 2).
• Nurses' knowledge of medical imaging examinations was significantly related to the profile in which they work (p < 0.05) (Fig. 5).
