This is a single-center retrospective study of adult patients from The Medical City who underwent cardiac magnetic resonance imaging with findings compatible with myocarditis from March 2017 to March 2022.
The sample size of 76 was divided into 45 COVID 19-related myocarditis cases and 31 cases of myocarditis from other causes. The cases of myocarditis from other causes were obtained from the pre-COVID period between March 2017 to March 2020 and the cases from COVID 19 related myocarditis were from the period between April 2020 to March 2022. Follow-up cardiac MRI cases and pediatric patients were excluded from the study.
Data sets included patient age and sex, as well as the cardiac mri findings based on the Lake Louis Criteria for myocarditis, namely: left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), right ventricular ejection fraction (RVEF), left ventricular end diastolic volume (LVEDV), right ventricular end diastolic volume (RVEDV), presence and distribution of late gadolinium enhancement (LGE), presence of myocardial edema, pericardial enhancement, pericardial edema, and pericardial effusion. Analysis of variance and Independent T-test were used.
