SAM, though uncommon, should not be underdiagnosed. Awareness of this condition and timely recognition through angiographic imaging techniques are essential to prevent severe and potentially fatal complications.
Its diagnosis is made by excluding a broad range of differential diagnoses. However, it should not be considered the default diagnosis for all idiopathic visceral artery abnormalities that cannot be attributed to other diseases.
When SAM is suspected, screening of other abdominal and extra-abdominal vascular territories, along with mid- and long-term follow-up, appears necessary for appropriate management and treatment decisions.
