Malocclusion is one of the most significant medical and social problems in dentistry. It is worth noting that it ranks third in prevalence among dental diseases, following caries and periodontal diseases. The prevalence of dental and jaw anomalies and deformities in European Union countries is 59%.Analysis of literature data indicates no trend toward a reduction in this pathology in recent years. Moreover, the incidence has increased 1.5 times over the past 5 years.According to the WHO (1984), between 5% and 15% of patients with malocclusion require surgical treatment. At the age of 12, there is practically no difference in motivation to correct malocclusion between boys and girls (10.8% and 11.8%, respectively). However, from the age of 13 onwards, the number of girls and women seeking orthodontic treatment is twice as high as that of boys and men.
The studies were conducted in the Department of Diagnostic Radiology at the Clinical Academic Department of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine (CADRNM) of the Kazakhstan Federation "UMC" from October 2018 to November 2022. A total of 92 patients suspected of having micrognathia were examined using MSCT (multislice computed tomography). Among them, 81 patients were diagnosed with micrognathia, including 48 girls (59.26%) and 33 boys (40.74%).
The examinations were performed using the following multislice computed tomography scanners: "Aquilion Prime SP 160" by Canon and "Somatom Sensation 16" by Siemens. The standard patient positioning involved lying supine with the head positioned forward. Subsequent post-processing of the obtained data and 3D reconstructions were carried out using the workstations "AkgunPACSViewer," "Radiant," and "Vitria."
