Purpose Magnetic Resonance Imaging(MRI) is highly effective in observing complications such as inflammation around implants due to its excellent ability to depict soft tissues[1, 2]. However, differences in magnetic susceptibility within the primary magnetic field can lead to susceptibility artifacts, hindering accurate diagnosis. The View Angle Tilting(VAT) technique reduces susceptibility artifacts by compensating for signal distortions through the application of slice selection gradients during the read-out process. However, the tilting of read-out encoding causes image blurring[3, 4]. To address this issue, adjustments...
Read more Methods and materials 1. Phantom designA custom-designed phantom was created to simulate an implant in the human body. A titanium pin(15 mm × 135 mm × 5 mm), commonly used in surgeries, was fixed centrally between two plastic blocks and stabilized in a plastic container(125 mm × 185 mm × 50 mm) filled with lard oil to mimic human body fat(Fig 1).2. Equipment & ProtocolThe study used a MAGNETOM Vida 3.0T(Siemens Healthineers) with a 64-channel head/neck coil and included T1-weighted imaging(WI), T2WI, and...
Read more Results 1. Scan TimeScan time showed a significant reduction in GRAPPA factor 4 compared to GRAPPA factor 2(Fig 6, blue text): T1WI: 75% T2WI: 73% T2WI STIR: 73.8% 2. Quantitative Evaluation 2.1 Distance from phantom bottom to susceptibility artifactThe distance from the phantom bottom to the susceptibility artifacts was measured in TSE and TSE+VAT sequences. As a result, the distance increased in the TSE+VAT sequence, and the maximum increases are as follows(Fig 7, blue text). T1WI(GRAPPA factor 3): 14.5% T2WI(GRAPPA factor 2): 21.5% T2WI STIR(GRAPPA factor 3): 31% The increased...
Read more Conclusion This study evaluated a method to effectively reduce susceptibility artifacts and improve MRI image quality by combining VAT with DRB&DRS. The results demonstrated that the application of DRB&DRS effectively compensated for the image quality degradation caused by VAT-induced blurring. It also enhanced SNR, improving image clarity and resolution while reducing scan time. Notably, the best results were observed at GRAPPA factor 4(Fig 14~16), confirming the potential to provide high-quality images.Although this study was limited to phantom experiments, it is anticipated...
