Sonographic evaluation of superficial structure can be indicated in the presence of foreign body, infection, vascular malformation, trauma, and evaluation of soft tissue nodule and masses. Sonography is very useful and easy tool, however, there are several limitations for the examination because the lesion site of the superficial structure has a small field of view and easily compression of the structure by the transducer, and the non-cooperation of patient and motion during the examination. Stand-off pad can be used for the improving resolution of superficial structure of sonography, but it causes easy compression of structure including normal and pathology because of its thickness and weight, and easy slippery while the study. While large amount of ultrasound gel also can be used for decreasing compression of structure, it is still difficult to obtain a complete evaluation of the superficial lesion without any discomfort. Fourteen patients included sonography applied waterbath method for the evaluation of superficial lesions. Lesions were located in 4 cases of foot and ankle, 4 cases of finger and nail, 2 legs and 2 forearm lesions, two buttock lesions.
