Results

Inclusion: All patients within the stated duration with head injury listed as (part of) the indications for a CT request. A total of 38 patients (36 adults and 2 children) were included.

Exclusion: 1 excluded- Incomplete information

The session CT Head scan was completed/reported;

  • Daytime scans, 9:00-5:00 PM, Monday to Friday- 14.
  • Others (Out-of-hours and weekends) scans -24.

Findings

  • No intracranial events were identified in these scans.
  • 4 patients had extracranial events, not obvious on examination.
    • Orbital floor fracture
    • Haemosinus
    • Subperiosteal haematomas

Time from ED to Scan:

  • General average- 38 minutes
  • Daytime scans- 43 minutes
  • Out-of-hours scans- 36 minutes

Time from scan to final report

  • General average- 78 minutes
  • Daytime-73 minutes
  • Out of Hours- 80 minutes
