CT not only serves as an invaluable tool in aligning with the FIGO classification system but also plays a critical role in treatment decision-making in patients with ovarian cancer, especially in determining the feasibility of primary debulking surgery (PDS) versus neoadjuvant chemotherapy followed by interval debulking surgery (IDS).
The high prevalence of advanced disease at initial presentation, with up to 70% of cases in FIGO stages III and IV, further emphasizes the need for precise staging to optimize surgical outcomes and overall survival rate.
Take-home messages:
- peritoneal dissemination follows circulation of peritoneal fluid
- mark high-yield lesions (potentially non-resectable disease) which can alter surgical planning
- use a disease-specific structured report
