Conclusion

Retroperitoneal injuries are known to occur in a significant minority of abdominal trauma cases (12% of hemodynamically stable patients evaluated at one center) (4). However, retroperitoneal trauma shows the highest mortality rate among different types of abdominal trauma, which requires special care regarding diagnosis and management (5).

MDCT is considered the imaging modality of choice in diagnosing and staging cases with retroperitoneal traumatic injuries. Constructing the radiology report of retroperitoneal traumatic injuries according to the surgical zones made a common language with the attending surgeons and improved the time needed for constructing a management plan.
