A number of thirty-four patients with carotid plaque were recruited (n=17 CABG and n=17 controls). All participants underwent standard carotid ultrasound following the national protocol, which includes the Common Carotid artery, Internal Carotid artery, External Carotid artery and vertebral arteries bilaterally; the traditional Ultrasound assessment was followed by 2D-SWE to assess plaque stiffness. A high-resolution Acuson Redwood ultrasound system (Siemens Healthineers) equipped with 2D-SWE capability and a high-frequency linear-array transducer was used to obtain optimal imaging at the area of interest. The dual-screen mode of the 2D-SWE was activated to demonstrate and overlay the elastography map onto the B-mode image. The sample gate was carefully positioned over the carotid plaque and adjusted to fit within its boundaries.
