- In the past several years, we have witnessed the emergence of more NIR-II organic contrast agents.
- Organic NIR-II dyes have been used for the detection of various biological and pathological processes and the diagnosis of diseases with deeper penetration depth and higher resolution.
- Despite the rapid development of the NIR-II dyes, there still exists room for improvements.
- Most of the NIR-II dyes were used for imaging near 1000 nm, and new imaging contrast agents for the NIR-II subwindows such as NIR-IIa and NIR-IIb windows have not been as widely reported. Also, the design of smart NIR-II contrast agents is still in its infancy stage, and more accurate and comprehensive information are usually desired for diagnosis purposes, thereby, developing smart NIR-II contrast agents with high resolution and specificity is highly needed.
- The next frontier in radiological imaging lies in the synthesis and application of advanced contrast agents. These innovative mediums not only promise enhanced image quality but also herald safer and more personalized imaging experiences. As the shadows of uncertainty dissipate, the future radiological landscape is bound to be more illuminative and conclusive, ensuring optimal patient care.
